Founded 9 Feb 1958 by Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (educationist and Sufi reformer). Per the DAM management page, the current President for the 2025-2027 term is Prof. Dr. Golam Rahman and the Executive Director (Programmes) is KM Zahiduzzaman (recorded as chief_executive). Kazi Rafiqul Alam was the long-serving president/leader and is widely cited; leadership wording varies across sources. Started microfinance in 1993 and runs PKSF-funded branches (a secondary source cites 106 branches in 18 districts), but branch/member/financial figures were not confirmed against an annual report, so left null. Won the Independence Day Award 2002.
